About

I'm Steve Walton, and I started EPIC Words to share ideas and inspiration, to engage and entertain readers. I fell in love with books while quite young and spent so many hours in libraries. I like how words on a page can transform your thoughts and take you into worlds you otherwise wouldn't know. This love of reading turned into a career of writing.But life is more than words, so I sought adventure. Before writing, I joined the Army and became an infantryman at age 17. I then completed Airborne School and Ranger School at 18. I served in the Army's 1st Ranger Battalion, where I earned the Combat Infantryman Badge and more. I also graduated from the instructor’s qualification course for Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape (SERE) at Camp Mackall, North Carolina.I started writing for newspapers while attending Louisiana State University. I've had news, features, and opinion pieces published in newspapers around the U.S. I moved into public relations for the American Red Cross, and then corporate communications and other roles at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi.I've volunteered in many lay ministries in the Catholic church and was a leader with my children's units for the Boy Scouts of America. In all, I spent 20 years leading Scouts on backpacking, kayaking, rappelling, camping, and many other skills. A father of four and grandfather of five, I consider them the primary audience for much of my writing.An Army brat, I've lived primarily in Virginia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Georgia.
